About Canterbury
The city of Geoffrey Chaucer's famous "Canterbury Tales" is also the seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury, the leader executor of the Church of England (second after the monarch).
At the place (south-east of England) there has been a settlement since Pre-historic times (Bronze Age). The Latin name of the city was Durovernum Cantiacorum. It was the biggest Roman administrative centre in England. Three roads started from there - to Reculver, Dover, Lympne. Evidence to the reign of Romans at the city remain the city walls and city gates.
